"The United States in the Cretaceous"

This sketch shows an outline of the United States overlain by the land in the Cretaceous.

During the Cretaceous, the sea levels were much higher than today. This caused much of the United States to become submerged. As one can see there was a great interior seaway that cut the United States in two, from Texas to North Dakota. Also, the coastal plains were submerged. This caused States such as Florida, Georgia, and New Jersey to be completely underwater.
